Here are our exciting weekend recounts. Today we focused on including as many language features as we could into our weekend recount. When we had written about our personal experience we highlighted any examples of adjectives, similes, metaphors, alliteration and onomatopoeia in the work. See if you can spot the language features in these two recounts!

The tram
poline. By Joshua Still

Boing, boing, boing! I was happy like a bumble bee. I felt dizzy. I was on the trampoline. I was super dizzy!

I could
hear birds singing and clanging springs. I looked out and saw a car and a garden that looked like a jungle. I wanted to get off. So I did!

The TV Shoot. By Jade Petry

"Wake up Jade! Wake up!" cried Tyler, jumping up and down. I got dressed and ran downstairs, a whole movie crew was sitting at the table. After I ate we started filming. "Scene five, take one!" I said. Then CLAP! went the clapper and I dashed away out of the camera. "Good job!" said Tyler, flapping her arms like a bird that has gone crazy.

We sneaked over to the living room. We were like mice trying to get cheese. "Cut!" yelled Simon, the director breaking the silence. The sce
ne was finished and my mum asked someone, "So you want a real cup of tea this time?". I laughed and said, "Next scene!"

Tyler, the crew and me marched outside and started the scene. The leaves were little claws on the driveway. The dog barked in one scene and we all giggled at the end. Finally Simon said, "That's enough for one day!

We all reflected about our learning in Term 2. We had to complete self evaluative sentences. Here are a few of our reflections- we hope you enjoy listening to them. You might like to leave us a comment:)

Have a listen to some more of our fantastic poetry recitals!!

On Friday the Tipa team had EOTC again and we did team building. We did team building in our PE teams. When my group were doing the blindfold race, Mr Hall got blindfolded! He thought he was being kidnapped! We all giggled as we went to a different game. There were loads of other games, like lily pad hop, cross the river, parachute games and more! It was great fun!

Have a look at how Jade and Gareth have followed our success criteria and tried to MIB their writing by improving the verbs in the writing or using adjectives and language features like similes.

The play station game- By Gareth

I zoomed up the stairs to my room and slammed the
door. "Don't slam the door please!" shouted my dad. "Sorry!" I replied in a squeaky mouse voice. Then I turned on the play station and jumped back on my coach and grabbed the remote. I clicked on one of the people on the screen and it went completely dark like a dragons cave. Two blocks came up in one of the corners showing your battle life. My colour was red and his was blue. I got two cards, and they connected and made a new card called "Two headed thunder dragon". It had 2800 power points. It was the strongest card have ever made.
Then he put a card down. "I wonder what that is?" I whispered. He clicked on my card and my card lit up in flames. He destroyed it because his card was worth 3000 power points. It was ca
lled "Blue eyes white dragon."

Robot wars! By Jade

"Jade, come down stairs and play robots!" Tyler called from down stairs. I rushed down. I have not played robots in a while. I got handed a remote from my dad. The screen shot on as fast as lightening. I sat on the soft sofa. "Are you ready to play?" said a man. It was coming from the screen. I was the smart green robot.

Our first game was getting goals from other robots. When Tyler was goal keep, no one got a goal. It was my last goal.. I went for the green, Tyler missed it! "Wow!" Green is very useful!

We have been in Room 16 for 2 weeks now, and one of the first things we did was to develop our own class treaty. We looked at the Upper Harbour values and decided what they looked like in Room 16. Here is what we came up with.

Room 16’s Treaty
We have a treaty because it makes us feel safe, happy and able to learn.

Looking after myself means: I will-

·Walk on the concrete paths and in the classroom

·Look after my belongings

·Listen and concentrate on my learning

·Wear my hat and sunscreen outside

·Actively participate in the learning

·Tell the truth

·Make mistakes- that’s how we learn!

·Ask others for help

·Try, try and try again….

·Use our HABITS OF MIND

Looking after others means: I will-

· Let other people think

· Say kind things or encouraging things

· Share my ideas and make them clear

· Share my learning

· Share the classroom equipment

· Play fair

· Help others

· Look after people who are hurt or new

· Include others by asking them to play or work

· Listen to them

· Look after their things

· Have fun!!

Looking after the environment means: I will-

· Take home my rubbish

· Pick up any rubbish I see on the ground- even if it’s not mine

· Keep out of the gardens- they are for our plants!

· Tidy up after myself

· Make sure I don’t drop any rubbish

Using right time, right place, right person thinking means: I will-

· Be in the right place at the right time, e.g. remember I only run on the field

· Be ready on time, e.g. back quickly after lunch

· Remember to talk to the right people about the right things, e.g. tell important things to people you trust
