This week we had our Room 16 Poetry recitals. Everyone in Room 16 had to learn and recite an entertaining poem to the class. Our poems were marked by our peers who were looking for good poem choice, expression, voice clarity and body language. In Week 11 our three finalists will compete against the rest of the children in the Tipa team in the Poetry Finals. Good luck everyone!!
Here is a sample of our poetry recitals!!
Over the last two weeks we have been learning about the number 1000. We have been developing an understanding of the quantity of 1000 and also developing an understanding of the relationship between 1000, 100 and 10. At the beginning of the period Mrs Millett told us that we were going to have to collect 1000 items.
We talked about some ideas for our collections and decided upon the following collections:
Stickers- Ben and Kieren, Nadia and Prinisha, Sunghyun and Sam
Ice block sticks- Rebecca and Daniel, Amber and Pyper, Keita and James
Finger prints- Vasti and Gauri, Jude and Joshua, Stani and Estelle
Stones- Jack and Gareth
Split peas- Liri and Jessie
Toothpicks- Jade and Sherise
Counters- Monique and Natasha
Bottle caps- Logan and Adam.
After several busy days of collecting we were ready to present our collections and all of our learning. Today we shared our collections with the class and also completed a "Define Map" where we defined 1000 in all the ways we had used to collect the magic total. Here are some of our presentations:
2011 is finally here! Welcome to all the new children and families in Room 16. This is the first post on our new blogsite. I can't wait to see all of the exciting learning that you will be able to share on this blog throughout the year. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and finding out about your interests and abilities.
What's planned for Term 1:
This term our major inquiry focus across the school will be looking at our own and our classmates identities. We will begin by
investigating our selves and thinking about our abilities, likes, dislikes, strengths and areas that we find difficult. We will then develop some personal goals to direct our learning for the term. Our unit will also involve delving into what makes an effective class community. This will involve building definitions of a good classmate and friend. Our team building will coincide with an exciting week o
f Outdoor Education activities that will develop and encourage teamwork. Another outcome from our unit will be to also investigate our national identity through looking at New Zealand Geography and place names.
